1. Scope
1.1
This Standard sets out requirements intended to allow carriers to develop and implement an efficient and effective safety management system for the purpose of minimizing the risk of accidents and safety incidents.
1.2
This Standard specifies requirements for the implementation of a safety management system for firms engaged in the transportation of goods and/or people on public roadways. Note: This Standard is intended to complement other management systems that an organization may have in place.
1.3
This Standard incorporates all applicable jurisdictional, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
1.4
This Standard includes requirements for (a) management commitment to safety; (b) implementation of safety management; (c) safety management system support; and (d) continuous improvement.
